Orange Walk police, based on intelligence gathered by the department, made a bust of 25 pounds of marijuana being transported by a Belize Package and Mail Service (BPMS) driver in one of the popular courier service’s company vans this week.

Thirty-one-year-old Jose Garcia, the driver of the van, along with his co-worker Brian Hernandez, 30, were stopped at a checkpoint at the Establo Roundabout at the entrance of Orange Walk town around 10:05 a.m., Wednesday morning.

The pair had been driving from Corozal en route to Belize City when they were stopped. During the search which followed, cops found a large blue rectangular package which contained 23 pounds of weed and another two-pound package stowed away in another part of the van.

Both men were detained after police concluded they had enough information to accuse the BPMS employees of knowing about the packages.
The men, both of Halls Layout, in Corozal town, have been charged with ‘drug trafficking.’
