Child, 4, dies in locked car

Dangriga Police are investigating the “sudden death” of a 4-year-old boy, who was found unconscious inside his mother’s Toyota Camry, around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police reported that the child, Jahrion Joseph Lightfoot, was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where he died as he was being attended  by a paediatrician.

While the police investigation into the matter continues, it is believed that Jahrion  may have accidentally trapped himself inside the car  whichwas parked in the yard.

It is also believed that the joint effect of the confined space and the high temperatures recorded over the weekend may have  caused the child to suffocate.

The car has power windows and the child may have locked himself inside, by pressing the windows button.

Police reported that their initial investigation revealed that the child’s mother, Joan Garcia, 46, a teacher, had been searching for him since 10:45 a.m., and did not find Jahrion  until 12:30 p.m. that she discovered him inside her car which was parked in their yard.

Police Press Officer Rafael Martinez told The Reporter on Monday that after  the police complete their investigation, if evidence is found, someone will be held criminally liable.
