The sense of calm that has eased upon Belize City for the past few weeks has been shattered following the latest murder on  the south side Thursday night.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m on Thursday, a young man, identified as Michael Bonilla, was riding a bicycle on Elston Kerr street. He was shot to death as he rode towards Iguana street. Police have yet to issue an official report and it is not known whether or not the incident was gang-related.

Residents in the neighborhood say they heard as many as six shots fired. However  it is unknown how many shots found their target. The incident happened less than a month after police brokered a truce between rival gangs in Belize City on April 10.
