Another hand grenade, this one an M26 American-made explosive, was removed from the streets of Belize City on Wednesday evening and police have no clue who is responsible for placing or discarding the deadly device there.

The discovery was made at around 6:40 p.m. in an overgrown area in the Faber’s Road Extension community in Belize City. Police say that the highly-explosive device was wrapped in a black plastic bag and placed inside an old knapsack.
A unit of the Eastern Division’s Police Formation dubbed the Strike Team retrieved the weapon after bomb expert, Brigadier General David Jones successfully rendered the device inoperable.

The police offered no further details of how they got wind of the explosive in the knapsack at that location. The grenade, however, is of the same lemon shape type as that which was found on September 10th in an abandoned lot.
The M26 is a fragmentation grenade developed by the United States military, which entered service around 1952.
