Woman kills in Sarteneja

A Sarteneja woman, accused of stabbing to death 36-year-old Veronica Gonzalez over the Easter holiday, was charged with murder in the Corozal Magistrate’s Court and remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Wednesday.

The accused, Norma Pena, 39, a domestic and resident of Moho River Street, Orange Walk Town, was arraigned before Magistrate Dale Cayetano.

Gonzalez, a Belize City resident who had gone to Sarteneja to spend her Easter vacation, was reportedly stabbed in the neck, and stomach. She died on the way to the Corozal Community Hospital at about 3:00 a.m.

The stabbing reportedly occurred around midnight on Saturday, when Gonzalez and her sister, Wendy Aragon, were attacked while they were socializing in the park.

The two women had gone to use an outside bathroom across from the park at Aragon’s home, when the stabbing occurred.

Aragon was also stabbed in the chest, arms and received several other cut wounds. She was admitted to the Northern Regional Hospital, and is listed in a stable condition.

Police, however, have not filed any charges against Peña, for the Aragon’s stabbing.

Police have not reported on the motive for the fatal stabbing, but, according to reports, Pena stabbed Gonzalez and her sister in a jealous rage

Peña is scheduled to return to court on May 30.
