Wendy Lambey, 49, a resident of Curl Thompson Street and Aaron Munnings, 18, a neighbour, escaped death when a gunman ran through her yard on Friday night and shot them as they scoured for cover inside her home, occupied by several young children.
Lambey told The Reporter this week that the incident happened around 7:00 p.m. She said she was sitting in a chair inside the house watching television news and got up to talk to her husband, then went outside to check on her son, Giovannie Lambey, who was talking to his friend, Munnings.
That was when she heard a volley of gunshots and they ran in the house. By the time Munnings got inside, however, he had already been shot in the jaw and hand. Lambey, ran back to the chair she had just left moments before and crouched down as the gunshots continued to zip through the open door and house. She then realized that she had been shot in both legs.
Lambey was discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on Sunday while Munnings, who is also expected to survive is scheduled for surgery to repair a broken jaw.
Police investigations have since led to the arrest of Justin Hyde, 19, a resident of the same street. He is charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm.
