Two men charged with attempting to kill two policemen

Two Belize City men, who are accused of trying to kill two police officers last Saturday, were remanded to prison on Tuesday, after they were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie

Alexander Underwood, 23, a carpenter of a Reggae Street address, was charged with the attempted murder of Police Constable Raphael Abraham.  Dane Enriquez, 30, a mechanic of Nurse White Street,  was charged for the attempted murder of Abraham and a second officer, Police Special Constable Juan Morales.

Enriquez was also charged with aggravated assault on Morales, unlawful assault with a dangerous instrument and damage to property.

No plea was taken for the charges of attempted murder, because those will he heard on indictment before the Supreme Court. Enriquez, however, pleaded not guilty to the other charges.

According to police,  the two police officers reported that they were on motorcycle patrol in the Belama area, when Enriquez, who was driving a grey Ford Ranger pickup truck, attempted to run them over.

Police shot Underwood, who the police allege was in the passenger seat of the pickup truck, in his left foot, after he attempted to escape.

Enriquez was apprehended without incident.

The police press release on the incident spoke of three persons leaving the Ford Ranger pickup truck, but so far, police have only charged Underwood and Enriquez for this incident.

Reports say that Morales’ motorcycle was damaged during the incident.
