Traffic officer, Calvin Cumberbatch, 34, and his stepson, Mark Gentle, 27, became victims of a drive-by assault shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday.

An unidentified vehicle slowed down in front of their house on Caesar Ridge Road, near the Wilton Cumberbatch Field, and two of its occupants opened fire with what residents say sounded like machine guns.

The residence is that of Pamela Bennett Cumberbatch, described as a “loan shark”. Those injured are her son, Gentle, who is critically wounded, and Cumberbatch, her husband, who was treated and released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
The two were sitting in front of their house when they became targets.

The police have no clues why it happened or who did it. Their press officer, Raphael Martinez, said only they are following “several leads”, but did not delve into the details of what those included.

The residence where the shooting took place is situated in the heart of the South Side Gangland (SSG), and this was not the first time that violence has visited that place.
