An armed thief held up and robbed Southern Cable Company in Dangriga of almost $10,000 in cash on Monday afternoon, along with a laptop and a cell phone.

Officer Commanding the Dangriga police formation, Superintendent Roy Joseph told the Reporter that the receptionist at the cable company, Diane Munoz, 20, reported to investigators that just after 1:00 that afternoon, she was alone inside the office, located on Court House Road, when a man entered, saying he was there to pay his cable bill.

The young lady said that instead of producing money, however, the man pointed a rusty handgun at her and demanded “the blue bag”. She claimed she responded by saying she didn’t have any blue bag, but out of fear, she handed over all the money she had just prepared to be deposited.

That amounted to $9,905 in cash. In addition, she said the thief also went with a black Dell laptop and her Digicell phone. She said he escaped by simply walking out of the office.

Joseph said police have detained a number of persons for questioning and still have a few persons of interest in custody. Police strongly suspect that this robbery involved the assistance of someone who knows the internal operations of the cable company.
