Kijel Young, 19, a resident of Partridge Street Extension and a graduate of Gwen Lizarraga High School, was shot dead as he sat on a chair shortly after 9. Saturday night in a yard at #45 Vernon Street. Young wasrolling a stick of weed and making plans for a party.
He was sitting with his back to the entrance of the yard when a gunman stepped up and shot him four times in the back and once in the foot.
Some believe the shooting was retaliation for an exchange of words Young had with another youth earlier that night. He died upon arrival at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
Police have not linked the the harsh words withthe killing, and they are questioning a number of persons to solve this murder.
Young’s uncle, Clifford Broaster, has said that the youth was not the kind of person to “hoodwink” or rob anyone, so relatives believe his murder is linked to the misunderstanding he had earlier.
Young’s death follows that of an older brother a few years ago. He had recently worked with the Infrastructure Program on Vernon Street and was in the process of job-hunting when he was killed.
