An American teacher in Florida arrested last year for attempting to seduce two Belizean teenage girls, has been sentenced to 15-years in kail after pleading guilty to a federal charge of online enticement of children.
At his sentencing, David Wendel Thompson, the Tampa, school teacher begged for mercy and swore he would never have acted out his fantasy as revealed in his internet chats with the girls in Belize.. Thompson pleaded guilty last October and was sentenced by a Tampa court on Wednesday morning.
In his plea agreement, Thompson pleaded guilty to chatting with the two girls in Belize, one 13 and the other 15, using his Facebook account and another account he set up in the name of Iris Levy, made to look like the profile of a teen-aged girl in Belize.
Thompson promised to take care of the girls financially if they would allow him to be the first and take their virginity.
Thompson came to the attention of US Homeland Security Investigations earlier this year when Facebook security alerted investigators, according to court documents.
When he was stopped during a layover in Miami on his way to Belize, he told investigators he was only trying to meet women who were at least 18 years old. Agents who searched his bags found condoms and Cialis, the drug men use for erectilepotency.
Thompson was allowed to fly to Belize, but authorities here prevented from landing. He was arrested when he returned to Miami. It was his 10th trip to Belize since June 2011.
Belize is a “source destination” for sex trafficking and forced labor, a State Department report issued over the summer claims.
. “Child sex tourism involving primarily U.S. citizens is an emerging trend in Belize,” according to the report, which ranked the country more at risk than did a similar report last year.
