Denver Owin Jones, 29, a resident of Hattieville Village was shot dead on Marage Road, at its entrance to the Lake Garden area of Ladyville Village, on Saturday.

Crimes Investigations officer in Belize City, Superintendent, Hilberto Romero, explained to reporters that Jones had apparently driven down the road to deliver some money for someone there, around 9:00 at night.  According to Romero, Jones had three other people in his car when he drove into the road, and got out, walked to a dark area about 100 feet away where he was shot.

Romero said police do not yet have a motive for the killing and are interviewing the three persons who were with Jones when he was shot. Jones had planned to make a trip to Belize City after leaving the area.
Romero said police are looking at a number of possible motives. Jones was arrested and charged for a shooting in Ladyville a few months ago.  He had reportedly received death threats since that incident.
