Second woman raped at mile six junction near Dangriga

The mile six junction where the Southern highway meets the Stann Creek Valley road, was the scene of a second rape in less than a month. The two incidents were eerily similar, pointing to a serial rapist.

A 48-year-old resident of San Ignacio town told Dangriga police that last week Saturday at around 12:30 p.m. she got off a bus at the mile six junction and was there alone.
She said she was approached by a man who was armed with a machete. He has a brown T-shirt tied over his face. She said he dragged her into a nearby orange orchard and raped her.

After the rape, she man took all the money she had, which amounted to $372. He also took her black cell phone valued at $100.

Dangriga police have detained one suspect and plan to charge him with rape. in connection with the rape.
Another rape happened in the same area just a month ago. In that instance, a pregnant 19-year-old woman, was also at the same junction waiting for a bus when a man attacked her from behind, dragged her into a nearby orchard and raped her while holding a knife to her throat.

She described the man as dark complexioned and recalled that he had a gray T-shirt tied over his nose and mouth.
