Belize City police have charged Joshua Jeremy Gillet, 20, for the Sunday morning shooting of 44-year-old James Swazo at his home on Ground Dove Street in the Jane Usher area of Belize city.

Gillet was charged with ‘attempted murder’, ‘dangerous harm’ and ‘use of deadly means of harm’ on Monday.

Swazo, who is himself well-known street figure, was shot to his stomach and left thigh on October 29th, by someone who called him out of his house.
At a press briefing on Monday, investigators concluded that Swazo’s shooting shows no direct relation to his criminal past but is as a result of an ongoing rivalry in the Jane Usher area.

In their initial report, police had stated that Swazo was able to identify his shooter before he made his escape on a bicycle. On Monday police had also indicated that they were seeking a number of persons for the shooting.
