A man who tried to smuggle five pounds of high grade marijuana from Mexico into Orange Walk has been caught after a high-speed motorcycle chase through the town.
Thirty-one year old Genero Leonardo Pott, who was driving the motorcycle, pleaded guilty to a single charge of drug trafficking and was sentenced to 3 years in jail. He is also to pay a fine of $10,000.
An older man, 51 year old Fortunato Coye, who was riding on the pinion seat, was not convicted.
Orange Walk Police intercepted the motor cycle on Princess Diana Street around 7:45 on Tuesday night, but had to do a high speed chase when the motor cyclist refused to stop. The chase ended when the rider lost control of his motorcycle and Coye fell off.
A search of the motorcycle was conducted and police found a white plastic package containing the cannabis, a high grade of weed from Otoxha.
