An elderly man who was reported missing by his daughter last Friday was found floating in the Belize river on Sunday morning.

At around 8:00 p.m. on June 4, San Ignacio police pulled the body of 79-year-old Eduardo Landero from out of the Belize River in Santa Familia Village.

Police say that they do not suspect foul play in Landero’s death and a post mortem conducted on his body certified that he died from drowning.

His daughter, Myrna Ortega, 33, told investigators that on Friday June 2, she went out to do some errands and left her father at home in the company of other family members.

She said that upon her arrival back home she was informed by her daughter that Landero went to the river and did not return.

Family members conducted searches in the nearby villages and on the riverbank in order to locate the missing man, however he could not be found.
