Jose Benigno Lopez, 37, a Mexican watchman, died on Monday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving overturned in the Corozal Commercial Free Zone.
According to police, sometime around 4 p.m., Lopez, who was said to be travelling at high speeds when exiting the free zone, lost control of the Ford Ranger pickup he was driving, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.
As a result, Lopez, who reportedly was not wearing his seat belt, was flung out of the vehicle and suffered fatal head injuries.
Lopez’s passenger, another Mexican, Tilo Lopez, 50, also suffered a head injury, but he was treated and released from the Corozal Town hospital. He suffered a cut in the head and small bruises to his body.
