A set of keys led the Gang Suppression Unit to a stash of more than 50 pounds of marijuana this week.
Following a fruitless Monday-morning search of a four-door Ford Taurus car, the unit found the keys in the possession of the car’s alleged driver, 39-year-old mechanic, Raynard Grinage.
A GSU press release explained that, on the strength of a warrant, the officers traced the keys back to the upper flat of a three-bedroom wooden house at# 5842 Bachelor’s Avenue,in West Landivar, where they found 53.79 pounds of compressed hybrid cannabis.
Most of the drugs, which were packed in two boxes, were wrapped in brown paper and tape, while others were wrapped in Saran plastic.
The officers also found a flat grey digital scale and transparent tape inside a cabinet in the kitchen.
Police seized these items on the suspicion that they were used to weigh and parcel off the drugs.
This recent bust, which started as an anti-drug raid on West Collet Canal, is the second, big marijuana bust in roughly two weeks.
Grinage was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug with Intent to supply more than 53 pounds of hybrid cannabis.
Grinage, according to the GSU, was deported from the United States on September 22, 2011, for criminal possession of a weapon, conspiracy to distribute Phencyclidine (PCP) and illegal re-entry into that country.
Just over a year after his deportation to Belize, the GSU arrested and charged him for possession of an unlicensed gun,Firearm, a matter that is still before the court.
The GSU also believes that it has arrested one of Grinage’s affiliates during a separate search and seizure of a relatively smaller amount of drugs on the same date.
The GSU reported that during an operation on Central American Boulevard on Monday evening they intercepted a white 1991 Toyota Camry car which was parked on the street .
Standing not far from the vehicle was Orvin Beeks, 35, a taxi driver of 50 Neal’s Penn Road.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a black plastic bag, which reportedly contained about a quarter pound of the same type of cannabis.
Beeks was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
