Man shot while using phone on street

By Michelle Sutherland

A 42-year-old man of a Belize City address was fatally shot multiple times by an unknown assailant while he was standing on Jasmine Street using his cell phone last Saturday night.

Police investigations have since confirmed that around 11:50 p.m. last Saturday, Marvin Flowers was targeted by a man who rode up on a bicycle from behind and shot him multiple times.

Flowers, a construction worker by trade, was not a resident of the area but had gone to visit family members. He was standing in front of a church using his cell phone when the gunman approached.

Residents in the area say they heard as many as six to eight blasts. Residents saw Flowers trying to flee his attacker but he collapsed on the street.

Press Officer Raphiel Martinez told the Reporter that investigators are currently following several leads, which they hope could lead to an arrest.

Flowers succumbed to his injuries at 1:53 a.m. on March 5 while undergoing treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hopsital.
