A Belize City man is on life support after he was shot multiple times early Tuesday morning at the corner of Vernon Street and Central American Boulevard.

Thirty-year-old Rafael “Jaggy” Cruz was shot four times and received wounds to the stomach, chest, back and neck.

Cruz was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and according to his mother, Patricia Cruz, he was taken into surgery and remains unconscious on life support. He is listed in critical condition.

According to Cruz, her son had just left home on his way to the shop to buy for her.
One neighbour who heard the shots said that a pair of men rode past on a motorcycle and one fired the barrage of shots at Cruz.

The family said that they believe Cruz was targeted simply because he lives in the Ghost Town neighbourhood.

They said that anyone who came out could have been shot because they suspect the men were waiting to see someone.

Ms Cruz’s brother, 57-year-old Alfonso Cruz, was also killed in April when he was shot several times while he sat in front of his house on Rhaburn’s Alley.

Police found 10 expended shells in the area.
