A Belize City man is dead after he was stabbed once to the left side of his chest with an 11 inch blade while trying to assist a female friend who was involved in a dispute with another man.

Phillip Michael Samuels, 31, was socializing with a group of friends at his apartment on Booths Crescent around 8:20 p.m. on July 17 when he was stabbed once to his chest while attempting to intervene in an act of aggression against a female.

According to Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal, regional commander for Eastern Division South, investigators are looking for a person of interest who has been named as the prime suspect in the murder investigation.

Vidal also confirmed that an all points bulletin has been issued for his arrest since it is believed that he is hiding out district as all searches within Belize City have been futile so far.

Sources say that the argument between the group had escalated after the accused punched a woman who verbally disrespected his wife.

Police retrieved a knife from the scene with an 11 inch blade that had blood stains on it.

Investigators could not say whether the suspected murder weapon was taken to the scene of the incident by the accused or if he had retrieved the knife from inside one of the apartments.

Samuels was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries at 10:40 p.m.
