A 37-year-old Carmelita village reisdent, Julissa Villamil, is recovering from injuries to her leg while mourning her husband, Joaquin Villamil, 38, who was crushed to death in an accident between miles 14 and 15 of the Philip Goldson highway on Wednesday night.

According to police, around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Joaquin was accompanied by his spouse, Julissa and were travelling in their Isuzu Trooper towards Belize City before making their way to Belmopan. Joaquin reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and flip several times.

Joaquin was flung from his driver seat unto the pavement and before the vehicle came to a halt, it landed on him, crushed him to death on the spot, police confirmed.

Passersby who happened upon the scene were able to remove the vehicle from off Joaquin before paramedics later responded to the scene and officially pronounced him dead.
Police say that upon their arrival at the scene, cops observed the vehicle laying on passenger side, and beside it, Joaquin’s body and his injured wife.

The body was transported to the morgue, while Julissa was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital with injuries to her leg.
