An accident on the Benque Road, this week, claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy while the operator of the vehicle he was traveling in has been served with a ‘Notice of Intended Prosecution’.
At around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, San Ignacio police responded to a traffic accident on the Benque Road, near Saint Gabriel Medical Center. There, they discoverd a blue Freight Line truck from the village of San Jose, San Pablo of the Orange Walk District.
David Dominguez, a 47-year-old resident of that village, reported to police that he was driving the freight truck with an attached trailer towards the Hawksworth bridge, and accompanied by 15- year- old Doyle Anthony Barahona and 20-year-old Christopher Usher.
Dominguez was reportedly having problems with truck’s brakes and could not pull over, so he asked Barahona to put a rock in front of one of the truck’s back wheels.
As Barahona was doing so, Domingues lost control of the truck and ran up the hill off the road. Barahona was caught between the trailer and the truck and was crushed by the rear right wheel.
Barahona was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he was pronounced ‘dead on arrival’.
Police are still investigating the incident.
