On Monday evening an elderly man from Santa Elena village in the Toledo district drowned after he went to swim at a river located a short distance away from his home.

On Monday at about 1:20 p.m., police were called out to the village where officers observed the body of 85-year-old Ancuncion Choc laying beside the main road which runs parallel to the river.

Investigations reveal that around 12:00 p.m. that day Choc went to take a bath at the river which is located about 200 yards from his home.

When he did not return, his granddaughter went to look for him but only found his clothes and soap near the river bank.

A search conducted by family members within the area led to the discovery of Choc’s body about 250 yards from where his belongings were found.

The body was retrieved from the river and transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:49 p.m.
