The investigation into a shooting incident which happened over two weeks ago in Corozal town has been updated to a murder investigation after Brenda Jandrez, 22, died from her injuries over the weekend.

Police are now seeking two suspects, who were previously in police custody but released, for questioning.
Jandrez died as a result of a single gunshot wound to her lower abdomen. She was shot on the morning of November 1st while she was inside a home on Mahogany Street in that municipality.

Police had detained two suspects after the shooting but they were later released and are now being sought for further questioning in relation to the matter.

Police say that so far investigators have not been able to recover the murder weapon nor did they recover any shells from the scene. There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment.
Jandrez was reportedly staying at her boyfriend’s apartment and was in bed when a single gunshot blast ricocheted through the apartment resulting in her injury.

Investigators did not say whether the gunshot originated from inside or outside of the house. Reports from the family suggest that prior to the incident, Jandrez had refused to provide an alibi for someone who was fingered in a murder investigation.
