Street figure, Ellis Meighan Jr. along with an under-age boy have been arrested and charged for the attempted murder of Carlos “Zimbab” Abraham, a member of the George Street gang.

Meighan, a resident of the Ghost Town community where Abraham was shot, appeared on Monday along with the boy before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. Both were charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.

Because this was a shooting offense, no bail was offered and Meighan has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville until January 30th when he is scheduled to be return to court. The minor has been remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility.

Last week Carlos Abraham was shot at the corner of Banak and Lakeview Streets as he sat in his SUV, which was parked in front of a tire shop. Abraham was in a discussion with his uncle and received several shots, including one to the neck, one to the jaw and one to the chest.

Abraham was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where doctors saved his life.

Abraham has since publicly declared that he has abandoned gang-life and he would not be looking for revenge.

Police are still on high alert, expecting gangland retaliation between the Ghost Town and the George Street gangs, which are known to be fierce long- time rivals.
