Police Constable Cyril Casimiro, attached to the Corozal Police Formation, is on remand at the Hattieville Prison after he was denied bail on a charge of rape upon a minor.

The girl, 14, in the company of her mother, reported to Corozal police on Monday evening that Casimiro, whom she had known for a short period prior to that day, met her around 1:00 p.m. that day on Antonio Sosa Drive and offered her a lift home.  The child said she accepted the offer, but instead of taking her directly home, Casimiro took her to an area in the Altamira layout of Corozal Town and raped her.

A subsequent medical exam on the girl has certified that she had had sexual intercourse that day, and the doctor classified her injuries as “wounding” and Casimiro was taken into custody immediately upon the filing of the report.

Officer commanding the Corozal police, Superintendent Andrew Ramirez has said that aside from the criminal charge against Casimiro, he also faces internal disciplinary measures.  Casimiro, Ramirez said, has been accused in the past of a sexual offense of a similar nature during the 10-year period in which he served as a policeman.

Casimiro will return to court on July 1st.
