Belize City police charged two teenage boys with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery on Tuesday, March 19, after Belize City Councillor Roger Espejo reported that boys had robbed him while he was socializing at Newtown Barracks around 7:00 Sunday night, March 17.
Espejo described his assailants to Police as one being dark-skinned and the other fair-skinned, both with close-cropped hair and about 5’6” in height, dressed in T-shirts and cut-off pants.
He said one of the young men had his hand under his shirt as if holding a gun, and so when the young man demanded, “run when yu got”, Espejo remained still and allowed the robber to relieve him of a fashion chain with an oval, black steel medallion, valued at $50.
The two young men were accompanied by a group of four other young men and all six rode off on bicycles down Princess Margaret Drive.
Espejo then pursued them and managed to capture one of his assailants, the fair-skinned youth, whom he then turned over to police at the Queen Street Police Station. Police are looking for a third suspect involved in the incident.
