Central Lab to get $300,000 upgrade

IMG_0835The Central Medical Laboratory beside the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City has been overdue for renovation.

But it was announced this week that it will now get a $300,000 upgrade. The Ministry of Hea1th signed a contract with the architectural firm of  Gutierrez & Associates in Belmopan last Friday, July 19.

Health Ministry Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Peter Allen signed the  contract  for Bze$295,125.56 along with Mr. F. Javier Gutierrez, and Managing Director of Gutierrez & Associates.

The floor structure and exterior walls will be redone, along with interior works, plumbing, and electrical work for the Chemistry, Hematology and Serology Units.

The store room  for lab supplies, the administrative office, the Director’s office and the Laboratory Services Office, all on the first floor, will also be renovated .

Minister Pablo Marin  had announced the Government of Belize would allocate $300,000 for renovations of the lab at a press conference called  to address the tragedy of a dozen infants who died in the K.H.M.H. prenatal intensive care unit last month.
