A Canadian national living in Chula Vista, Corozal was viciously murdered in front of his wife and three children on Wednesday night.
Just after 10:30 p.m., that day, Canadian contractor, Gabriel Buchina, 38, and his wife, 27-year-old Jeshanah Zetina, along with their children, were returning home from Chetumal when a man wearing a mask accosted them at the gate of their property.

Reliable information suggests that Buchina had exited his vehicle and was in the process of opening the gate to his property when the man whom he recognized as “Polo” ran up to him and fired multiple shots at him, hitting him in the abdomen.
After shooting Buchina, the gunman then turned his attention to Zetina and attempted to shoot her, however the gun snapped, after which the assailant fled towards the Ricalde Stadium.

Buchina was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital for medical attention and then to the Orange Walk Hospital where he died.
Police have not issued much information on the murder, except to say that investigations into the matter continue.
