By Benjamin Flowers Staff Reporter A 23-year-old man from Orange Walk died in a road traffic accident this week, after his motorcycle collided into a white pickup truck. Matthew Bull, a resident of Yo Creek Village, was travelling on the Philip Goldson Highway towards Orange Walk Town, around 8:00 a.m., near the Mayemal curve at mile 57. Bull reportedly tried to overtake a sugarcane truck, and crashed into a white Ford Ranger, driven by 31-year-old Hernan Cortez. Cortez was traveling in the opposite direction at the time and crashed in a head on collision with Bull, who sustained massive injuries and died on the spot. Eyewitnesses said that Bull’s body was violently flung from his motorcycle before smashing into the pavement a few yards from the crash site. Police have not disclosed whether or not Cortez will be criminally charged for the accident.

A Punta Gorda man is in police custody after he allegedly shot his brother by accident during a hunting trip this week.

Leonardo Cus, 21, allegedly shot his brother, 31-year-old Geraldo Cus once to the chest, causing him to die, around 8:00 on Tuesday night after the two got separated during the hunting expedition approximately 10 miles outside of the San Miguel village.

The men got separated in the bushes. Leonardo told police when he fired the shot he thought he was firing at an animal. After making checks, he realized that he had accidentally shot his brother. With the help of family members, Geraldo was transported out of the bushes and to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

Police say that when they were called out to the PG hospital, cops observed Geraldo suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest area. He was later pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
