Burrell Boom resident booked on drug trafficking and other charges

Eugene Henderson, 37, was arraigned on a charge of drug trafficking and three other offences, when he appeared in the # 4 Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Henderson was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of obstruction and not guilty to the other three charges.
Magistrate Dale Cayetano charged him $350, plus $5 cost of court on the obstruction charge. He has until May 30 to pay the fine. If he defaults he will have to spend six months in prison.
When it comes to the other three charges, Henderson was released on a bail of $5,000 and his matter adjourned until April 4.
The incident which led to the charges against Henderson occurred on Friday, March 1.
Police Constable Ronald Sutherland reported that he was on motor cycle patrol on the Burrell Boom/Hattieville Road, when he saw Henderson walking with a knapsack in his hand.
According to Sutherland, Henderson ran into the nearby bushes as he was approaching him.
Sutherland reported that he got off his motor cycle and pursued Henderson. He said that while he was pursuing Henderson, he saw him throw a plastic bag into the bushes.
Sutherland said that when he caught up with Henderson, a struggle ensued between them.
Sutherland told police that during the struggle, Henderson struck him on his left hand, but he was able to subdue him.
He said that he then took Henderson to the spot where he saw him throw the bag, and when he retrieved the bag and opened it, he saw that it contained a green, leafy substance, that he suspected was marijuana.
Sutherland reported that he took Henderson and the bag to the Burrell Boom Police station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 83.4 grams.
