Police suspect robbery was the motive of the shooting murder of Prudencio Gonzalez, 48, the watchman of Bacab Eco-Park, who was killed inside his home at Ridge Lagoon, off the Burrell Boom Road on Sunday night.
Gonzalez, who lived a short distance away from his workplace, was drinking beers inside his house sometime around 9:00 p.m., as he normally did, when someone shot him once above the right eye.
The gunshot blast broke the still of the night, and Gonzalez’ neighbours and friends made checks in their immediate surroundings to see what it was. They didn’t realize until two hours later that it was Gonzalez who had been shot inside his home.
Gonzalez’s murder has shocked his friends, who say that he usually drank his beers alone inside his home on most nights. When they got to his house that night, they discovered Gonzalez’s front door open. His half nude body was on the floor, and a number of beer bottles were strewn around the house. His television set and lights were on.
Commander of the Police Department’s Eastern Division (Rural), Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster told reporters this week that while they believe the motive for the murder was robbery, police do not have any suspects. Gonzalez’ wife, Broaster told The Reporter, was not at home when he was killed.
Bacab Eco Park issued a release stating that Gonzalez was a faithful and long-standing employee and friend. He hadworked with them for ten years, along with his wife.
