Jose Rodriguez, 54, a Honduran truck driver, has been charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and driving without due care and attention, for a road traffic accident on Monday evening that claimed the life of an 11-year-old schoolgirl.
Tezzrah Thompson, was attempting to cross the George Price Highway to go home around 4 on Monday afternoon. She had just alighted from a school bus along with several other children who live at Mahogany Heights community.
The bus was still parked at the side of the road where the children got off, when a white delivery truck traveling in the same direction passed, reportedly without slowing down.
The truck’s exterior rear-view mirror struck the child in the face as she stepped out in front of the bus to see if she could cross.
The impact knocked her to the ground and the vehicle ran over her. She suffered kidney, spleen and lung injuries, as well as facial bruises. She died on Tuesday morning at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
Tezzrah Thompson, already drawn to numbers and budgeting, was the treasurer of her class at Saint Matthew’s Government School, located some five miles from where she lived. She had dreams of becoming an accountant.
