A number of schools in the Cayo District recently received donations of computers, printers, projectors, school bags and boxes of stationary from the government of Taiwan.
The recipients included Sacred Heart Junior College, El Progresso Primary, Hidden Paradise, Buena Vista Government School, San Marcus, New Life Government, Saint Joseph R.C., Cristo Rey, United Pentecostal Primary and Hands for Life.
During the handing-over, Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize, Benjamin Ho, indicated that his government was pleased to assist Belize and wished the recipients well in the use of the equipment to carry out their work.
The schools were chosen by volunteers from Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University who conducted research and during a visit earlier this year.
The volunteers learned that many elementary schools in the Cayo District did not have sufficient computer equipment and stationery. The volunteers sought assistance from Taiwan and secured the donations.
Each summer, through the sponsorship of the Taiwanese Government, over 200 volunteer groups from various universities in Taiwan are sent abroad to share their goodwill. Volunteers from Taiwan have visited Belize four times since 2011.
On Monday, the visiting students will present a performance at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts in Belize City.
That event is free of cost and will begin at 7 p.m.
