Taiwan congratulates CITO on ISO certification

This week, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) congratulated the Central Information Technology Office (CITO) on passing the ISO 27001 external audit from May 8-9.

CITO’s success marks the third time the office has passed the rigorous audit, which means that it maintains its prestigious certification for having an international information security standard.

The Taiwanese government has assisted Belize in establishing the Information Security Management System at CITO, and supported it over the past three years to maintain the certification. ISO 27001 is the most internationally accepted certification for security management best practices and comprehensive security controls.

“CITO has dedicated itself to maintaining and improving its information security services and become the leading agency in the Belizean government’s noble and tireless crusade for e-government initiatives,” GOB said on Tuesday.

The government explained that the Taiwanese Embassy worked with CITO on spearheading the twin projects of Belize Electronic Licenses and Permits System project (BELPAS) and Belize Motor Vehicle Registration and Licenses System (BMVRALS).

The projects’ success mean that in the near future, Belizean people can apply and acquire the licenses and permits for import/export, motor vehicles registration and driver’s license in a much more time-saving, efficient and less costly manner.

GOB said that the projects form a part of many other cooperation agreements between the governments in a continued pursuit of upgrading and diversifying its economy and national development.
