Christian Workers Union (CWO) General Secretary, Floyd Neal, is the new president of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB).
Neal took up the position at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the NTUCB, held on Saturday, March 18. Neal had only one opponent for the position, Jacqueline Willoughby, whom he beat in the election 45-21. Willoughby remains First Vice President of the NTUCB.

Neal will serve for two years, during which time he said he intends to rebrand the Union, and press to give the Union more social presence, through forging strong partnerships.
“I will not focus on what happened in the past. We need to be laser-focused on moving forward. The image and the narrative of the NTUCB is about to change,” Neal said.

Newly Elected President of the CWU, Dale Trujeque, voiced his support for Neal as president, saying that he is convinced that Neal will be able to “aptly” handle the challenges of his presidency
Apart from electing a new president, the NTUCB also elected a new treasurer, Hubert Enriquez of the Southern Workers Union. Enriquez was unopposed in the election and will also serve a two-year term.

The NTUCB is an umbrella organization that represents 10 trade unions countrywide. These include the Christian Workers’ Union, Belize National Teacher’s Union;, Belize Water Services Workers Union, Belize Energy Workers Union, Public Service Union, Belize Communications Workers Union, Belize Workers Union, Association of Public Service Senior Managers, Southern Workers’ Union; and Progressive Teachers’ Union.
