National Sports council appoints new director

The National Sport Council recently appointed a new director, Ian Jones.


Jones was officially appointed to the new post which became effective on Monday, May 15. Jones expressed his commitment towards the development of sports in Belize.


According to a government press release, Jones is currently pursuing post-graduate studies in Sports Management from the University of West Indies, and possesses many years of service in the sporting industry.


Adele Catzim-Sanchez, CEO with responsibility for Youth Sports and Culture said that Jones is an ideal candidate for the post, coming from a background in business development, sports management and information technology.


Catzim says that Jones unique set of skills will assist the National Sports Council as it intensifies its implementation of the National Sports Policy and broker new partners with sports federation, private sectors and international organizations.


Additionally, Jones was the president of Verdez football club. He served as manager of FC Belize, and was on the marketing committee for the Football Federation of Belize among several other committiees.


Jones took over the post from former director Ritchel Dominguez, who served a one year term.
