The Ministry of Health (MOH), along with several international organizations, hosted a sub-regional workshop for nursing educators in Belize on Monday.
The workshop was organized with the aim to review, update and develop a plan of action for nursing and midwifery practicioners.
The workshop, in which members from various areas of the medical field participated, was hosted along with the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Participants included chief nursing officers and nursing educators from throughout the region. It was facilitated by technical personnel from PAHO in Washington D.C. and the WHO in Geneva.
Participants were familiarized with knowledge on specific topics such as the competencies of the WHO and the integral definitions of the services of nursing and midwifery.
They were also taught to identify organizations responsible for planning, as well as taking budgets into consideration.
The training, which brought together nursing institutions from all over the Caribbean, was part of a process that seeks to strengthen the competencies in the nursing field within a specific timeline in the region.
