The Christian Workers Union (CWU) on Wednesday announced the addition of former Kolbe Foundation CEO, Earl Jones as its newly appointed Labour Relations officer.

CWU President, Audrey Matura-Shepherd welcomed Jones to the CWU as a part of its negotiation team during a union progress report at CWU headquarters.
According to Shepherd, the union felt the post became necessary to negotiate for the rights of workers. She added that Jones’ experience made him the most suitable candidate.

Jones said he was eager to begin work, bringing his experience and his new job.

Shepherd also gave an update on the status of the union. She said since taking over last year, the union has seen a 31 percent increase in membership. Shepherd revealed that the CWU is also recruiting members and encouraging more people to join its membership.

She announced that the CWU will hold its first annual general meeting in February. An audit of the past year’s finances will be presented at that AGM.

Shepherd said they had also commissioned an audit for the period before her presidency, but many files and records were missing, so the audit cannot accurately reflect the union’s management of its finances for that period.
She shared that 2015 will be a year of negotiations for the union and its members, whereas last year was more of a rebuilding and restructuring process.
