CTO says 2016 is the “Year of Romance”

The Caribbean Tourism Association has declared 2016 as the “Year of Romance” for tourism in the Caribbean, ushering in a year-long marketing pitch for the region to be the world’s premier romantic tourist destination.

The CTO made the announcement this week, that it envisions 2016 the Year of Romance in the Caribbean as a catalyst for sellers and promoters of weddings and honeymoons, bridal publications and websites as well as wedding planners and service providers at the destination end.
The initiative will be promoted through social media and traditional media channels and will create opportunities for travellers and vacation planners to share their experiences and ideas of a romantic Caribbean vacation throughout the year.

“With over 30 destinations to choose from, the Caribbean region provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway highlighted by pristine beaches, secluded accommodations, an abundance of land and water activities, top-notch spa services and personalized attention that meets the needs of the most discerning traveller,” said CTO Secretary General Hugh Riley.

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) this week said Belize has already made strides in marketing itself as a romantic destination and is considering participating in the initiative. The BTB says it is currently assessing the prospects for participation within the upcoming financial year in April.
Between 2013 and 2015, Belize has been featured in over 30 online and print publications. The country was mentioned by sources such as: Martha Stuart weddings, NBC, Bride’s Magazine, The Huffington Post and USA Today.
