Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) has restored its 4G network after it experienced technical issues on Sunday, preventing thousands of Digicell 4G users from using its mobile internet services for most of the day.
BTL’s Public Relations Officer Lorena Martinez, told The Reporter that on Sunday morning the 4G network experienced an overload .
BTL explained in a press release that the correlation ID is a “unique identifier which is used for each data session (a unique ID is issued to every user). The IDs were at the maximum threshold and this caused all new GPRS/4G data connections to not connect.”
Due to the problem, 4G users were unable to browse the internet, but voice calls and text message services were unaffected, Martinez said. BTL discovered their system was having problems around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday and called in their technicians to work on repairing it shortly after. The entire network had to be cleared, she added.
According to Martinez, the network was fully restored around 8:00 p.m. and the 4G service normalized. The company has advised anyone still experiencing problems to contact customer service for assistance.
Martinez says that customers whose mobile internet plans expired during the course of ithe glitch can contact the company to have their cases assessed individually.
