The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) on Tuesday launched the third edition of its Invest Belize magazine, an investment publication meant to highlight business opportunities in the country.
Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Trade & Investment Promotion Michael Singh said this third edition places an emphasis on the emergence of agribusiness as one of Belize’s major industries.
“We’re going to see sugar propel to probably doubling or tripling its production over the next two, three years. We have year-over-year increases in grain, literally fifty percent a year. That kind of production is getting to the point where we need to start having bulk exports, so the government needs to develop the infrastructure to allow that kind of export,” Singh said.
Singh added that the productive sector is getting together and working with the government on the possibility of doing some port improvements to support the kind of agricultural work necessary to facilitate bulk shipment.
Earlier this year, Belize Port Authority CEO Arturo Vasquez said the port was already in discussion to facilitate bulk-cargo transportation to and from the port by way of constructing a suitable terminal capable of shipping bulk-cargo for agro-products. Vasquez, at the time, expressed his interest in having the government become a key stakeholder in the investment.
BELTRAIDE partnered with McNab Publishing to print the magazine and has been making use of the publishing company’s distribution connections to get the magazine to a wide international circle of readers.
