Belize and Mexico meets to discuss international transportation

By Michelle Sutherland

A Mexican delegation offering technical support to Belize visited on Monday as part of a follow up meeting between top Belizean and Mexican transport officials.

The group met to discuss the framework for a Memorandum of Understanding for international motor carrier, passenger and freight transportation between both governments.

The Mexican delegation was headed by Mexico’s Ambassador to Belize, H.E. Carlos Quesnel Melendez, who was accompanied by Mexico’s Director of Bilateral Economic Relations, Director of Planning and Development as well as the Director of International Transport Services, among other officials.

The Belize team was headed by CEO in the Ministry of Transport, Ruth Meighan; Chief Transport Officer, Tirso Galvez; and Solicitor General, Nigel Hawke from the Attorney’s General Ministry.

The sit down between the top officials was a follow up to an initial meeting held in February between Belize’s Minister of Transport Edmond Castro and the Mexican Ambassador.
