TAIWANESE PRESIDENT CONCLUDES VISIT TO BELIZE

Today H.E. Tsai Ing-wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) completed her three-day state visit to Belize at the invitation of Prime Minister Dean Barrow.

She arrived on her first visit to Belize on Thursday, August 16, greeted by the Governor General H.E. Colville Young. During their meeting, the Governor General conferred the Order of Belize on President Tsai, in recognition of the years of friendly diplomatic relations between both countries.

President Tsai also spoke at the award ceremony for the latest cohort of students that received scholarships to go to study in Taiwan. On Friday, President Tsai attended a special sitting of both the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament.

During the special sitting, President Tsai announced that Taiwan would be increasing the number of scholarships being offered to Belizean students as well as inviting young Belizeans for short-term vocational training programs in Taiwan.

“Despite the great geographic differences between our 2 countries Belize remains close to our hearts. The Republic of China Taiwan is committed to supporting the national development of Belize as a friend and partner,” President Tsai said.

She concluded her visit on Saturday with a tour of Belize.
