Two police searches, one in the north and the other in the west, have resulted in the discovery of a stash of weed and a gun; and two persons have also been arrested.

Police say that they found over half a pound of weed around 8:30 on Thursday morning when they searched a bus heading from San Ignacio towards Belmopan. They say their attention was drawn to a youth who was acting suspicously and found the weed inside a knapsack he was carrying.

The youth, a 17 year-old of Shawville, Cayo, was later arrested and charged with Drug Trafficking in the presence of a guardian.

The gun, meanwhile, was found during a similar search on Thursday at the Toll Bridge in Orange Walk. Police informed that the passengers of a red Chevrolet Tracker were acting suspiciously at a checkpoint and when they searched one of them, Luis Alberto Montejo, 39, of Guinea Grass Village, they found a loaded 16 gauge shotgun on him. Montejo reportedly does not have a license for the gun. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed Firearm and Possession of Unlicensed Ammunition.
